Amazon Introduces Simplified Seller Feedback Process
To make it easier for customers to share feedback, Amazon is introducing a simpler seller rating process starting 4th August 2025. With this update, customers can leave star-only ratings without needing to write a comment, helping increase the number of reviews sellers receive.
What’s Changing:
- Star-Only Ratings: Customers can now rate sellers using only a star rating (1–5 stars), with written feedback being optional.
- Faster Submissions: The reduced effort required to leave feedback is expected to significantly increase the number of seller ratings.
- Appeals Restricted: If a star-only rating (without text) is submitted, sellers cannot appeal it through the Feedback Manager.
- New Dispute Path: In cases where a seller believes a star-only rating violates Amazon’s guidelines, they must use the "Report a violation" feature instead.
Impact on Sellers:
- Higher Volume of Feedback: Easier submissions will likely result in more frequent ratings, giving sellers a broader range of customer sentiment.
- Less Insight on Issues: Star-only ratings provide no context, making it harder to identify and address specific problems.
- Limited Control: Sellers lose the ability to dispute potentially unfair star-only reviews directly in Feedback Manager.
- Proactive Monitoring Required: To manage reputation, sellers must regularly review ratings and report abuse through the appropriate channels.
While this update is designed to boost the volume of seller feedback by simplifying the submission process, it also reduces the transparency and control sellers previously had. With written comments now optional, sellers may find it harder to understand and respond to customer concerns. As a result, staying vigilant, monitoring feedback closely, and using the “Report a violation” tool when necessary will be essential for maintaining a strong seller reputation under the new system.
