Snap and buy, Prime Day for grocery, Prime Exclusives and Prime Sample expansion

Snapchat integrates with Amazon

Snapchat is integrating shopping into their app with a new feature that allows users to scan, identify and purchase an item simply by using their smartphone's camera. The "Visual Search" engine – first spotted by an app researcher in the code of Snapchat's Android app – will link users to Amazon listings straight from the app. The feature will work by sending data to Amazon and other partners, allowing Snapchat to presumably take a cut of the profits from any purchase made.

This is a really significant development as it takes Amazon into social commerce, linking social discovery direct to purchase. Amazon is leveraging their competitive advantage over Google to improve customer experience and increase millennial visitors to their platform.

Prime Day moves into grocery

This is the first Prime Day since Amazon acquired Whole Foods, so Amazon is using the event to drive Prime members in-store and encourage more frequent use of their platform. Amazon Prime Day deals will be available in Whole Foods stores, offering money back and significant discounts on certain items for Prime members. Prime members who spend $10 at Whole Foods between 11th & 17th July will receive a $10 Amazon credit to use on Prime Day. The grocery chain is also offering discounts on produce, seafood, and some shelf-stable products. Shoppers who qualify just have to scan the Prime Code in Whole Foods or the Amazon app at the grocery checkout.

It has not yet been reported whether these deals will be available in UK Whole Food stores.

Amazon is using Prime Day to launch as many as 70 new products to market, many of which have been developed through their Launchpad division, which helps new merchants sell on the platform. These products are offered exclusively to Prime Members worldwide. The new products come from a broad range of categories from beauty and toys, to fashion and books. Unsurprisingly, looking through the list over 30% of the brands are Amazon Private labels. You can see the full exclusive range on this link:  https://amzn.to/2ugozyS

Amazon Prime Samples expands

Amazon Prime Samples are now available across 28 departments on Amazon. Vendors can now get their products listed in the Amazon Sample Store and offer single items or travel-friendly sizes exclusively to Prime customers. This is a great opportunity to encourage trial of your products as part of a Prime member's weekly Fresh or Pantry shop. Amazon is giving more prominence to samples within their channels and actively encouraging brands to take up the service through the strategic vendor services (SVS) team.
